The newly named solution, The Hosting Cloud, is an advanced, easy-to-use, cross-platform cloud computing offering that, for the first time, allows for seamless scalability. The new approach eliminates the cost and complexity of scaling web infrastructure, specifically for developers and companies looking to deploy large web applications. The company also announced today new utility pricing for its business-class hosting solution.

The Hosting Cloud offers power without complexity to provide significant benefits for developers. Current solutions are often complicated and require additional coding to use. Mosso, on the other hand, enables developers to get their applications up and running in three easy steps: choose a domain, select operating system of choice and set default technology. Other recently added features of The Hosting Cloud include Ruby on Rails, Windows2008/IIS7 hosting and SFTP access.

New Pricing Highlights

Currently, for $100 per month, The Hosting Cloud includes 24×7 live technical support (phone and chat) and simple, online software to manage projects and clients. It offers 500 GB bandwidth, 50 GB disk space and 3 million web requests per month — enough to power almost any website or application. The solution also offers unlimited web applications and email accounts, restricted only by the included resources. The newly added web request metric is more straight-forward, granular and outcome-based than other units and formulas used – in hosting, it’s about as close to pay-per-use there is. As traffic grows, customers ‘pay-as-they-grow’ through Mosso’s utility pricing model that delivers capacity when and where it’s needed.

With today’s announcement, Mosso now offers unlimited and automatic scaling for web applications. When a user exceeds the resources allotted in the $100/month membership, scale pricing kicks in to deliver just the capacity that’s needed.

Current pricing for additional capacity beyond the base membership is:

  • Disk Space- $0.50/GB
  • Bandwidth- $0.25/GB
  • Requests- $0.03/1,000 requests

    I asked your staff and they said JSP (Java Server Pages) aren’t supported. However your mosso.com site is using JSP pages and I confirmed with your support agent you aren’t hosting Mosso.com on your cloud technology. Isn’t this a bit odd to sell a hosting technology that you don’t use yourself?

    It’s standard fare in the hosting industry to externally host the main site and various support services (eg: http://status.mosso.com/), so if some disastrous event does occur people can still get critical information.

    They may be selling a 100% uptime service, but that isn’t the reality and even if it was there could be a major environmental issue that causes the entire datacentre to go offline.

    @Scott: You’re right, Java Server Pages aren’t currently supported, though we are hard at work on an effort to add Java to our current lineup. Java has some unique properties that make it more challenging to provide in a cloud environment, but we feel confident we can create a compelling offering around it. We continually add new technologies: we started with PHP, then added .Net, and then added Ruby. In all likeliness, Java will be the very next major technology added to the platform.

    Meanwhile, parts of our site run on specialized Java servers because we use Java to power our provisioning systems and control panels. However, other parts (this blog for example) do indeed run on the PHP portion of our cloud infrastructure.

    Hello,

    I’m very impressed with the idea you’re implementing here and it would really perfectly fit my needs. I’m looking for a managed hosting/ email solution for 50+ client websites with 365/ 24/ 7 U.S-based English phone support and “restricted” client control panels.

    The only thing that’s holding me back is when I search Google for Mosso feedback I come across many downtime, speed and reliability complaints. Is there a way to check the cloud’s historical uptime? And is there any solution in the works that might cost more but provide the same features in an environment with more restricted resources, and therefore greater reliability?

    Most consumers are smart enough to tell the difference between a server(s) where you can truly build a solution, and a bunch of services you’ve wired up through WMI and IIS7. Call it what it really is…an attempt to break into the shared hosting business through webtwoohifying your marketing lingo and building this site. Wow, I feel like its 2006 on this site. At least I didn’t immediately see AJAX plastered somewhere.

    While your competitors are actually creating true “grid” and “cloud” offerings you try to confuse people by creating a traditional shared hosting offering and naming it “mosso” and then using the word “cloud” and trying the associate the two like there’s some special relationship other than the one you’re trying to cook up. Nice try, but we’re smarter than that!

    I really hope your board and investors realize how stupid it is to focus on low value solutions when the big guys like Microsoft and Google are cramming that space with free solutions, and some paid ones which hold a lot of value which are marketed to the masses. I sense that this idea was cooked up by a MBA without a lot true operational and technical experience, with lots of pretty PPT’s with upward arrows and market trends. Look for the deals in the hosting industry where there are multiple’s of revenue being paid out in roll ups. You don’t want to be diluting your core value (solutions over $500/month) with this crap.
